We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at Riu Palace Antilles located on Palm Beach. Our room was located on the 10th floor, partial ocean view room. The room was nice and spacious but the bathroom could use a little updating.
The food was excellent! They have 3 ala carte’s that you don’t have to make reservations for. They open at 6:30pm until 9:00pm. We did get shut out of the Steakhouse. We didn’t arrive early enough; they were booked for the entire evening. We were able to get into the Krystal (European fusion) which was excellent with great service. The buffets were also very good, many choices. They also offer 24 hours room service.
The Riu is in a great location with an excellent beach for walking. We were close to the DePalm pier which has a great bar/restaurant and several cute little shops. There are also shops all along the beach in that area. We made a trip to downtown Oranjestad for more shopping.
The excursion we booked was the DePalm’s Palm Pleasure Sunset Sail. They serve appetizers and have a full open bar. Really great was to see the coast and of course, the sunset. Cost is $79.00 per person. A good time was had by all!
We didn’t go to any of the shows the resort has to offer. There was entertainment all throughout the resort at night. One night at the buffet, there was a pianist/singer. In the lobby area, there are singers and small musical bands. On Sunday nights, they have a “White Party” on the beach.
There are 2 pools, one with a swim up bar. The other is larger and where all of the sport activities are. Both are pretty noisy. If you wanted a more quite place, go to the beach. The beach is very large with lots of Palapas.
WiFi is available throughout the resort.
The weather was excellent and usually is in Aruba! It was mostly sunny every day and no rain even though November is their rainy season. Temperatures were in the high 80’s, low 90’s. It’s a lovely Caribbean destination.

I have recently returned from an Avalon Waterways river cruise – Essential Holland and Belgium Southbound. This was my first time on a river cruise and I would definitely do it again. We booked a Panorama Suite. Loved the floor to ceiling windows, and every opportunity we had to open them we did. The service was outstanding! The wait staff was also very good. Our wine glasses were always filled. The food was excellent. Good thing we took all of the walking tours. We had to walk off all of the extra calories we consumed!
The local guides were very informative and showed us all a good time. The whisper sets were the best - our guide in Kinderdijk wore his wooden shoes! What I did not expect were the tours for those with mobility issues, the “gentle walkers” group. There were about 10 people on that tour daily. These are for elderly people and those who walk a little slower. We did the optional excursion to Bruges (a must do) and since you can’t get in by bus, they took them in via a taxi. We just walked from the bus stop.
There were mostly Americans and Canadians on board. We did have a couple from Australia and a group from the Philippines. Also, have several young couples. This sailing was at full capacity but never at all felt crowded. Avalon is the best!

We were booked in an oceanfront room. Great views and great beach! Our room was big with a large balcony the bathroom was marble with Jacuzzi. Our butler tried to meet with us the first day but we were anxious to get to the beach. We did meet with him the next day and he set up our dinner reservations for the next 2 nights and had our minibar stocked to our liking. We made reservations at the Italian and that was just okay. The Japanese was excellent! There were lots of choices in the buffet restaurants. Alcohol was top shelf. There are quite a few shops right on site and a casino. We found the service to be excellent and would definitely stay here again!
I thoroughly enjoyed sailing the Italian and French Riviera aboard Azamara Club Cruises' Journey. I loved the smaller size of the ship, only 697 passengers, very easy to navigate. The fact that the ship is smaller, you are able to get into many ports the larger ships can not get into.
This itinerary is great for people watchers, shoppers or those who just want to sit at sidewalk cafes and enjoy a cappuccino or a bottle of the local wines. The views along the Riviera are spectacular!
Our ports of call included Rome, Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Taormina Sicily, Florence (Livorno), Portovenere, Portofino, St Tropez and Monte Carlo/Monaco.
There are many inclusions on Azamara Club Cruises making it a great value. For instance, gratuities are included. Also included are wine (served with lunch and dinner), bottled water, soft drinks and specialty coffees. The food was excellent and service outstanding.
Journey also features two specialty restaurants, Spa and Wellness Center, a coffee café, a piano bar and a wine bar, live entertainment, daily enrichment programs like wine and champagne tasting. At Azamara Club Cruises, they say “You’ll Love Where We Take You" and boy did I ever!
My husband and I returned from a lovely anniversary trip to Jamaica staying at Couples Swept Away, one of my new favorite resorts!
With acres of breathtaking white sand beaches, a bounty of tropical gardens and an ambiance drenched in romance and escape, Couples Swept Away redefines your idea of paradise. Nestled in charming Negril, Jamaica, Couples’ most private, peaceful resort offers everything you need to unwind – from yoga lessons to fine dining at their gourmet restaurant, Feathers.
We went on the "Sunset Catamaran" tour to Rick's Cafe and swam in the caves, complimentary as guests of Swept Away. We loved the tropical island feel of this resort. The dining experiences on property were fabulous. The sunsets were spectacular, the service outstanding and the beach bonfire with acoustic guitar was very romantic.
However you choose to spend your time at Couples Swept Away, you’ll discover unlimited opportunities to wrap yourself in its radiance. We can't wait to go back!
