I have recently returned from a lovely Costa Rica experience with Memorable Costa Rica!
The first hotel we stayed in was 8 minutes from the San Jose airport. The Marriott Hacienda Belen and it was a nice change from the normal airport hotel as it was set on an old coffee plantation with Spanish decor. This would be a perfect hotel for anyone that has a late arrival and needs to head north to the Arenal area and could overnight and go the next morning.
This trip put together by Memorable Costa Rica is not your normal itinerary where you would head north and do Arenal for a few days and then go to Papagayo or Guanacaste. This is for people who have already been to Costa Rica and want something different. From San Jose, we headed south on a 3 hour bus transfer and hiked Los Quetzales National Park (pretty easy), stopped at a local restaurant for lunch.
We then headed about 2 more hours to the mountain top resort, Hacienda AltaGracia. Oh my, what an experience. It is an Auberge collect hotel and normally included in the rate, is a shared Charter Flight from San Jose airport to the resort airport. One and two bedroom Casitas with a personal assistant that will be at your beacon call via a text. There are golf carts to take you all around the resort if you do not want to walk as it is super hilly because of the location above the clouds. Fabulous spa called The Well with a sauna, steam room, mud treatment, hot marble beds, whirlpools and large pool for all to use. We did a rake sound bath experience at night under an open air palapa. Actually the pouring rain made it even more special. This is the most unbelievable resort I have ever seen!
The next morning we headed east about 2 hours and hiked Manuel Antonio National Park. We were able to see both the 2 toed and 3 toed sloths, many different kinds of birds, flowers, and monkeys. Our hotel was just outside of the park called Los Altos Resort. The main building was actually condos so they have 3 bedroom units and they will be refreshed soon. They have 10 brand new 1 bedroom Townhouses with plunge pools that face the jungle and looking down, you can see the beach and water. They also have 2 beautiful 1 bedroom Villas with rooftop with private plunge pool and Jacuzzi (perfect for honeymooners). This resort sits on a private jungle reserve and they have a hiking trail through the jungle and down to the small beach. The beach is not good at all with black sand and many large rocks. This is not the place to go if you want beach but a great resort for the area. There is only 1 restaurant on property but if you walk about 6 minutes out of the resort, there is a Thai restaurant, a coffee shop and café and there is a small grocery store.
After our 2 night stay, we headed back north to the Central Valley in the Cloud Forest area. It was a 4 hour bus ride with a couple of stops for restroom and coffee breaks. For clients with any motion sickness problems, they need to take a pill. It was a long and winding commute but worth the beautiful scenery and final stop at our resort for the night. The Silencio Lodge was very quaint with beautiful 1 and 2 bedroom Lodges that were elegantly furnished. Here you can rent out ebikes for $35.00 an hour or regular bicycles for nothing. Also onsite you can book a Waterfall Hike, Horseback Adventure, Zip-line and repelling tour and even river fishing. They have different class like, wine tasting, oxcart painting, and cocktail class all with a small charge. They have a small spa here with yoga classes and other services.
I can’t say enough about Memorable Costa Rica and their planning for this trip as well as other trips that they have done for my clients. I would be happy to assist you with your next Costa Rica adventure!
