The Riu Republica in Punta Cana is quite a large property (1382 rooms).  Delta Vacations gives it a 4-star. I would always request a room in the front part of the property near the ocean.  We heard many complaints of the 15 minute walk from the back rooms to the beach.  Most of the restaurants and activities were up near the beach also.  The water slides are really the only reason that I could see anyone wanting to stay in the back section.

 

Our room was considered ocean view, but with the Palm trees it was a stretch to see it most days.  The location of the room was perfect for being centrally located.

 

Pros - Price – Very active, party atmosphere, great beach, pools – 9 pools with 3 of them having swim up bars.  We found a great spot at the “quiet” pool that was home for our stay.  Staff was very friendly. Clean, but older rooms.

 

Cons – Food was all buffet style, even at the specialty restaurants.  Menu was the same every day with the exception of the “meat of the day”  Jack even got bored with the food and he will eat anything.  I had a hard time finding food to eat.  A lot of eggs, salads, and pasta and cheese pizza were in my diet for the 10 days. Party atmosphere – very young crowd of drinkers, kind of a big spring break atmosphere.  We did a lot of people watching.  Drinks were mainly all domestic brands.  If you drink the tropical drinks you were good, but the hard alcohol was not to our liking. Bathroom in all of the rooms has a frosted floor to ceiling window from the shower to the main room so could be interesting for friends traveling together.

 

All in all we were looking for a sun and sand get a way and that is what we got.  I would use this property for a younger active traveler that is looking for that Spring Break Experience or one that has no travel experience.
