Seabourn Venture Wild Scottish Isles & Iceland

IMG 1287This Dublin to Reykjavik itinerary on Seabourn's Venture was a repositioning sailing so the ports of call were unusual and not ones you would see normally. We were in category V3, cabin #616, 355 SF. Cabin was spacious with warming closet for parkas. Bathroom was spacious with double sinks, tub and shower. We were surprised how small the shower was – most would find it too small!

We had cruised with Seabourn before but never on their expedition product. With on 134 cabins, the ship was easy to navigate. Fitness center on deck #7 was open 24/7 and good choice of Techno gym equipment and free weights. The spa was spacious with standard treatments – 50-munite facial was $199.

Dining options at the Restaurant, The Colonnade and The Club (Sushi) were all excellent with good vegetarian options and different menus daily. Room service was available 24/7.

The landing zone was well organized and had lockers for boots and extra clothing. Zodiacs were easy to board right off the landing zone.

We participated in many Seabourn shore excursions which were well organized. The optional Kayak Expedition was fun - $250pp. The Shetland Rural Experience with Sheepdog Demonstration in Lerwick, Shetland Islands was the highlight - $300pp. The majority of shore excursions were included at no cost.

Things we liked:

  • Customer service at every level was amazing
  • Zodiac rides (no wet landings)
  • Fitness center
  • Dining options
  • Country club casual
  • WiFi was free – Starlink (one device at a time per passenger)
  • 2 custom-built expedition submarines (itinerary did not allow use of these but they looked pretty cool)

Suggestions for improvement:

  • Seating in the Discovery Center made it difficult to see presentations if tall people in front of you
  • Naturalists were nice but didn’t seem to be experts in birding
  • Bigger showers in staterooms (or replace some of the bathtubs with showers)
  • Unlike Lindblad, naturalists did not join us for meals – missed that opportunity to chat
  • Onboard lectures were not as good as we have seen on other expedition cruises
  • Great yoga room but no instructor on board

Other:

We used the new Delta-One lounge in Boston on the way – the restaurant was quite nice. We toured the new Delta-One lounge in JFK on the way back – it’s HUGE – 39,000 SF with tons of amenities: https://www.delta.com/us/en/delta-sky-club/delta-one-lounge
